![]() I appreciate what Gearbox have done and I think it’s important to take any frustration toward the Remastered titles with a bit of consideration & understanding. I’ve been a Homeworld fan since '99, even pulled my Historical and Technical briefing out for a re-read when they released Remastered. I am also very much looking forward to playing Deserts of Kharak tomorrow I have some idea of how much brain strain is involved in reverse engineering software and I do not envy that task in the slightest, to me this sort of dedication a year after release is way above and beyond, and proves a great respect for the franchise and for me, as a customer. I am holding off on really getting involved with the files until the patch comes out because it sounds like it has been and still is an awful lot of hard work and will probably render any changes I make now completely irrelevant. My only crtiticism is that even with the new fleet scaling the difficulty is too easy - but this I would look to mods for, I know that resource scaling is a large part of this and is fairly easy to rebalance. Homeworld 2 scaling for difficulty was almost perfect, challenging no matter what but the story was laboured and not compelling with its retcons and so on.įor me the remasters do justice to the memory of those games and they do it in style. The fuel thing was just irritating for me, there were several intermittent but game breaking bugs from failing mission triggers to complete crashes, single function ships requiring a different corvette for each task, a rather unbalanced and unfair campaign that absolutely required foreknowledge of enemy forces and scripted events in order to build the right counter, which then whilst still very much fun became a complete steamroller when you realised how powerful the salvaging mechanics were, all of this was somewhat masked by a compelling and emotive story but it was far from a perfect game.Ĭataclysm got the balance much better, but for me the spin off story while good did just feel like a spin off. I bought the original game and Cataclysm twice, Homeworld 2 once all on CD, really loved the first game but I am weary of remembering things in a little rose tinted light. There is nothing constructive/positive/useful about such posts/threads and that is why I responded. I do not work for gearbox and I didn’t feel personally adressed, I just find these kind of posts annoying and pointless because they achive nothing aside from one frustrated/disappointed player venting his anger in a pointless gesture of publically announcing that they are “done” and/or making idle “threats” of boycotting future games based on their experience with the current game. If you choose not to care, fine with me, I’m neither seeking to change opinions nor am i even addressing you (unless you work for gearbox!) Disappointment is a very subjective feeling and what you might deem disappointing is plenty of fun and enjoyment for others. There are also quite a few people here on the forums who have played HW1 back in the days, and who, based on their responses to differences between HW1 classic and RM here on the forums, don’t seem to feel disappointed by the remastered edition, so apparently their childhood memories were not “exploited”. Nostalgia makes people do strange/illogical things they might later regret, but that is the person’s own fault no one elses (at least that is my opinion) because using rational thought would in most cases prevent people from making that mistake. ![]() As for fond childhood memories, they are no excuse for a blind purchase without informing oneself beforehand and there were plenty of people on steam who complained about the missing formations among other features from HW1 right after release of the game (I assume that is what you are so hugely disappointed by, right ?). No one on Steam would frankly give a toss about that.įirst of all, please don’t presume to speak for anyone but yourself, you are not the representative of a group, but only voice your and only your opinion. However homeworld is a game many people have such fond memories of from childhood, we frankly feel borderline exploited by what’s presented in the remastered version.
